When shopping online one of the difficulties we all encounter is that the products we try to buy are intangible. When going to the mall, for example, we can physically see and touch a product we are interested in. Buying something over the internet doesn’t allow for such an experience. As a result, buyers can be turned off quickly if the right incentives and selling points are not in place. You as a seller, on the other hand, loose the sale. What is the best way to persuade your website’s visitors to proceed to the check out? Among other factors like UI, product description, warranties, etc.,high quality images are of utmost importance. If you don’t have good product images on your Magento store, here is why you should have them and how to improve the existing images:

Quality

We simply cannot stress enough how important it is to have high quality images on your Magento website. I believe that any eCommerce design can be made or broken by the quality of the images that are used. If you are not getting high quality photographs from a manufacturer, invest in a photographer to take pictures of your products and come up with interesting ways to arrange them for some additional presentations. Ask your photographer to be creative with product placement, combinations, and angles. Then, collaborate with your designer to make your website more interesting. You should also talk to your designer about investing in a stock image subscription and the best way to utilize stock images.

Effects

Using a raw, untouched image is only one of many options you have when uploading images to your site. While product images probably shouldn’t be modified except to enhance them, your designer can achieve amazing looks with effects on your banner images and promotional areas. One example that is currently trending is to blur an image and then overlay that image with text or a graphic. You can also add a texture on top of an image, create a vintage polaroid effect, or even change the image to black and white for a more classic feel. The options are endless and getting creative with images is just another way to set your site apart from the others.

Image Mood and Consistency

Your brand should have a specified mood and your photographs should reflect this mood. If your brand is bright, fresh, and clean, you might want to use crisp and clear background images featuring dewey plants or clean water. If you want to depict more of a dark or grungy feel, a de-saturated photograph with a vintage effect might work well. It is important to keep the mood of your photographs consistent throughout your website to reinforce your company brand.

Image Cropping

The way you crop an image can change its feel completely. Cropping becomes even more complicated when it comes to responsive design. I like to approach responsive design as being very elastic, so I often find it necessary for a single image to fit into a container that changes as the screen size expands and contracts. Make sure your designer has creative freedom over the way your images are cropped, and keep in mind that different shapes and sizes can make your website and your products more interesting.

Product Images

In most cases, customers will decide to buy your product based on the image of that product. Your customers will trust you if they feel completely sure that the product that they see is exactly what they will receive when they place an order.

  • If you offer different variations of one product (colors, fits, sizes) , be sure to have images of each variation.
  • Upload larger images so that visitors can zoom in on products to get a better idea of texture and sheen.
  • In at least one image, it’s a good idea to place the object on a model or next to something recognizable so that shoppers can get an idea of size and fit.
