Google is the world’s most widely used search engine. About two thirds of all web searches occur with Google, and the reason for its popularity is simple; people trust that Google will return their search with the best results and most relevant information. Appearing on the first page of a result for your target keyword is invaluable. Google has the power to drive visitors, their business, and their money to a website that appears at the top of the rankings. SEO specialists have spent many years and lots of company money trying to figure out the perfect formula for mastering search engine rankings. While some focus on quality content, others have tried to cheat the system by “spamming” search engines with unethical methods.

Over the past few years, Google has updated its search algorithm with a focus on fresh, quality content. With the goal of eliminating the need for SEO, Google used the real experiences of real people to determine what makes a high quality website, in terms of user experience and content. Google insists that to get to the top of the rankings, you should focus on establishing yourself as an expert within your niche, instead of designing your site around your search rankings.

The following infographic highlights the most relevant and important updates Google has made over the years and explains the simplest ways to create a high quality website that people and search engines will love. Click on the infographic to view or download a larger PDF version.
