When it comes to managing your online brand, you know how important it is to keep your website content fresh and constantly updated. Because there are hundreds of other things that you need to do to keep your business or website running, sometimes blogging gets put on the back burner. I came up with some tips to help you stay motivated, keep your audience engaged, and grow your business by growing your website.

1. Keep your goals in mind.

Understand what your blog is meant to do for your website. Your goal should be to increase traffic and visibility, but also to be informative, to gain the trust of your readers, to engage with fellow experts, and to expand your own knowledge.

2. Know your audience & form a relationship with your readers.

Who is reading your blog? Who do you want to be reading your blog? Do your readers trust you? Do they come back for more useful information? You should be thinking of your blog as a trusted and reliable source for the people who visit. You are the expert. Reply to every comment and try to be as helpful as possible.

3. Build your brand.

You need to write (and do everything on your website) with your brand in mind. Don’t stray too far from your brand identity and things that directly relate to your brand. Reiterate your expertise without being repetitive.

4. Keep learning.

Being current means you must constantly be sharpening your skills, discovering new topics and trends, and understanding what is going on in the community you are a part of.

5. Keep a rhythm but not a schedule.

Keep a steady writing rhythm, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself to write on the exact same time of the exact same day – it isn’t going to happen and it is easier to brush off an assignment when you know you won’t make it on time. Rhythmic writing keeps your content fresh and also helps build a trustful relationship to your readers as a source who cares about staying engaged.

6. Switch it up every once in a while.

Feeling burnt out? Switch things up every once in a while! Hire a guest writer, do a unique post with a different type of media like a video or some images if that’s not usually what you do. Being a guest writer on other blogs is also extremely helpful because you can spread your influence, form new relationships with new readers, and of course link to your website!

7. Be current and original.

Old news isn’t going to get much of a response from your readers, and neither is writing about something you’ve already said a hundred times in twenty different ways.

8. Be part of the blogging community.

You should be reading and commenting on other blogs and spending as much time as you can reading and keeping up with current trends, topics, and experts.

9. Make sure you have the right process.

Don’t make writing any more difficult than it already is. If you aren’t using a reliable content management system like WordPress, you might want to consider making the switch. WordPress is a great tool for publishing your work and it also offers great plugins, strong SEO, and an extremely versatile platform upon which to create your own beautiful design.

Last, blogging is undoubtedly one of the best marketing tools to advertise your self and generate qualified leads. In our case, we blog on average 2-3 times a week, and we recommend this as the ideal number of weekly blog posts. Ever since we started blogging, we have seen a 90% increase on our website traffic and get on average 4-5 leads a week. Needless to say, we have cut back on other types of expensive marketing methods. We encourage you to do the same. In no time you’ll see how blogging will bring fruitful results.
