Shopify Plus B2B Development

61% of B2B buyers now prefer to complete purchases without speaking to a sales rep. Basic B2B features are on all Shopify plans since April 2026. For manufacturers and wholesalers with multiple customer groups, complex pricing structures, or large dealer networks, Shopify Plus is still the right foundation.

B2B buyers prefer rep free purchasing

Gartner research confirms 61% of B2B buyers now prefer a completely seller free experience. Buyers who have a working self serve portal use it. Those who do not are calling your sales team for orders that should not require human involvement.

April 2026

When basic B2B became available on all Shopify plans

On April 2, 2026, Shopify extended company accounts, custom catalogs, net terms, and volume pricing to all paid plans. For simple wholesale setups with up to 3 pricing tiers, a Plus subscription is no longer required.

Unlimited

B2B catalogs on Shopify Plus

Non Plus plans allow up to 3 active B2B catalogs assigned through Shopify Markets. Shopify Plus removes that limit and adds direct assignment to individual company accounts and locations. For manufacturers with more than 3 customer pricing tiers, Plus is the necessary plan.

$2,300

Monthly starting price for Shopify Plus

Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month. The decision to move to Plus should be driven by whether your B2B requirements genuinely exceed what lower plans support: more than 3 pricing tiers, partial payments, deposits, or separate B2B and DTC checkout flows.

Working with Shero Commerce for the past three years has been a game changer for our B2B ecommerce business. Their expertise in website support and ecommerce strategy has significantly improved our online presence and optimized our B2B operations.

What Shopify Plus B2B covers that lower plans do not

As of April 2026, all paid Shopify plans include basic B2B: company accounts, up to 3 custom catalogs, net terms, volume pricing, and vaulted credit cards. For many merchants getting started with wholesale, this is enough. For manufacturers and wholesalers managing multiple dealer tiers, large distributor networks, or complex pricing structures, three catalogs is the ceiling you hit quickly.

Where Shopify Plus B2B builds succeed and where they fail

Most B2B Shopify builds go wrong in one of three places: the pricing architecture was not designed for the actual number of customer groups, the ERP connection was treated as a post launch task, or the checkout was not set up for purchase orders and net terms from the start.

01

Plan selection before architecture, not after

The first question is whether Shopify Plus is actually required. For merchants with 3 or fewer distinct wholesale pricing tiers and no need for per company catalog assignment, lower plans now cover the requirements. For those with more tiers or complex structures, Plus is the right foundation. JustRite and STX both required Plus from day one.

02

ERP integration scoped in week one

Connecting NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or a custom ERP to Shopify B2B requires mapping company accounts, pricing structures, order data, and inventory feeds before build begins. Treating it as a post launch addition is the most common reason B2B projects run over budget.

03

Blended B2B and DTC on a single store

Shopify Plus runs both buyer types from one admin. B2B customers log in and see their company specific catalogs, pricing, and payment terms. DTC customers see the standard storefront. Same inventory, completely separate buying experiences. See our Shopify B2B pricing and catalogs page for full detail.

04

Net terms, purchase orders, and vaulted payments

Shopify Plus B2B supports Net 15 through Net 90 natively. Purchase order reference fields appear at checkout for company accounts. Buyers can vault a card and authorize automatic charging when payment comes due. These are not available on non Plus plans as checkout customizations.

05

Catalogs assigned to companies, not just markets

On Shopify Plus, catalogs are assigned directly to individual companies and locations. A regional distributor sees only their territory products at their negotiated price. On non Plus plans, catalogs are assigned through Shopify Markets, which means per company pricing is not possible without Plus or a third party app.

06

Shopify Flow for B2B operational workflows

Company account approval, new buyer onboarding, order routing, and net terms invoicing can all run through Shopify Flow. JustRite and Gen Y Hitch both use automated workflows to handle account volume that would otherwise require manual admin work every day. See our Shopify B2B account management page for full detail.

How Shopify Plus B2B builds run

01

Plan Assessment and B2B Requirements

Customer groups, pricing tiers, catalog structure, payment term requirements, and ERP data mapping are all documented. Plan selection (Plus vs lower plans) is confirmed based on actual requirements before any build work begins.

02

Architecture and Design

Company account structure, catalog hierarchy, integration points, and checkout flows are designed around the documented requirements.

03

Build and Integration

Shopify store build, company account setup, catalog and pricing configuration, ERP integration development, and Shopify Flow automation run in parallel.

04

Buyer Testing

Every B2B account type is tested through the full purchase flow: company login, catalog visibility, pricing accuracy, net terms at checkout, PO field capture, and ERP data sync.

05

Launch and Ongoing Development

Monitored launch with buyer onboarding support and ongoing development as B2B requirements grow or change over time.
