Avalara for Shopify calculates sales tax and VAT in real time across US and international jurisdictions. It supports product-level tax codes, exemption certificates, and multi-channel tax management. Avalara uses tax codes to determine how each product is taxed in each jurisdiction. Without correct codes, Avalara calculates at the default rate, which can over-charge customers or under-collect liability. Shero maps each product and variant to the right code, including exempt items, partially exempt products, and categories that are taxable in some states but not others.

Exemption certificate management for B2B catalogs

B2B merchants need exemption certificates collected and stored before exempting customers from tax. Migration from AvaTax for Shopify Plus

The legacy AvaTax integration was deprecated in April 2025. Merchants who had not migrated faced a compliance gap on that date.
