B2B buyers willing to switch suppliers for a better digital experience

A recent report found 67% of B2B buyers are willing to switch suppliers to access more modern, consumer like ordering experiences. The operational cost of manual order processing is matched by a competitive cost: buyers who cannot order easily will find a supplier who makes it possible.

4.1x

Increase in reorder frequency on Shopify B2B

Shopify reports merchants using native B2B features see up to a 4.1x increase in reorder frequency compared to DTC orders. Buyers who can reorder from order history in seconds place more orders than buyers who contact a rep to do it.

Draft orders

Available on all Shopify plans for B2B

Draft orders are available on all paid Shopify plans. Sales staff can create orders on behalf of company accounts with pricing, payment terms, and catalog assignments reflecting the buyer's company. Deposit requirements on draft orders require Shopify Plus.

Quick Order

Native bulk ordering in Online Store 2.0 themes v11+

Shopify's Quick Order List is native in Online Store 2.0 themes version 11 and later. It allows B2B buyers to add multiple variants and quantities directly from the product page without a third party app. For earlier themes, a quick order app or custom development is required.

The collaboration between us and Shero Commerce on the JustRite multi store site went beyond what we had hoped for. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements has greatly enhanced our online presence.

What B2B order management on Shopify actually covers

B2B order management has requirements that DTC order management does not: purchase order reference numbers at checkout, approval workflows where orders need authorization before processing, draft orders for sales rep assisted or phone based transactions, quick order tools for buyers who know their SKUs and quantities, and net terms that appear automatically based on the buyer's account rather than being selected manually.

B2B order management requirements that need to be configured correctly from the start

The most common B2B order management failures are: buyers reaching checkout without their correct payment terms showing, purchase order fields not appearing for company accounts, order history that does not support reordering, and approval workflows that create confusion rather than removing it.

01

Self serve checkout with correct terms for each company

Company accounts log in and see their company specific catalog, pricing, and payment terms at checkout automatically. No manual adjustment, no buyer selecting the wrong terms. This requires company accounts to be set up correctly with the right payment term configuration at the company or location level.

02

Draft orders for sales rep assisted and phone transactions

When a B2B buyer places an order by phone, email, or through a sales rep, draft orders capture the transaction inside Shopify with the buyer's company pricing and terms applied. The draft becomes a real order when completed. JustRite and STX both use draft orders alongside self serve checkout for their dealer networks.

03

Purchase order capture at checkout for company accounts

B2B company accounts see PO reference fields at checkout automatically in Shopify Plus. The PO number is captured on the order record and included in invoices and confirmation emails. For non Plus stores, PO capture is available through the order note field or a third party checkout app. See our Shopify Plus B2B page for full detail.

04

Quick order for buyers who know their SKUs

Manufacturing and wholesale buyers typically know the part numbers and quantities they need. Quick Order List in Online Store 2.0 themes v11+ allows buyers to add multiple variants and quantities from the product page. For earlier themes or more advanced quick order functionality like CSV upload, a third party app fills the gap.

05

Order approval workflows through Shopify Flow

For companies where orders above a threshold require manager sign off, or where specific product categories require review, Shopify Flow handles the approval routing without custom development. Orders can be held as draft pending approval, then released to fulfillment once authorized.

06

Reordering from order history without rebuilding the order

Location admins with access to company order history can reorder any past order directly. For manufacturing buyers with predictable reorder cycles, this removes the need to rebuild the order each time and removes the sales rep from routine stock replenishments. See our Shopify B2B account management page for full detail.

How B2B order management builds are structured

01

Order Flow Requirements Mapping

Every order type is documented: self serve checkout, draft orders, rep assisted orders, phone orders, approval required orders, and bulk or CSV orders. Each flow's payment terms, PO requirements, and approval logic are mapped before any configuration begins.

02

Checkout and Payment Terms Configuration

Company accounts, payment terms, PO field setup, and checkout customization are configured to ensure each buyer type sees the correct options at checkout without manual adjustment.

03

Draft Order and Approval Workflow Setup

Draft order workflows for rep assisted transactions and Shopify Flow approval automation are configured and tested. Threshold logic, routing rules, and order release conditions are documented.

04

Quick Order and Reorder Setup

Quick Order List configuration or third party quick order app setup depending on theme version. Order history reorder testing for all company account buyer roles.

05

End to End Testing by Buyer Type

Every buyer account type is tested through the full order flow: catalog visibility, pricing accuracy, payment terms at checkout, PO capture, draft order creation, approval routing, and order history access.
