Shopify for Industrial B2B eCommerce

Industrial buyers are placing orders online. US manufacturers and wholesalers made $8.81 trillion in eCommerce sales in 2025. The gap is not whether industrial buyers will use a portal. It is whether your portal handles the actual requirements of industrial purchasing: complex catalogs, ERP sync, dealer pricing tiers, and purchase orders.

$8.81T

US manufacturing and wholesale eCommerce sales in 2025

US manufacturers and merchant wholesalers made $8.81 trillion in eCommerce sales in 2025. Industrial eCommerce is not emerging. It is already the dominant channel for B2B procurement in manufacturing and distribution.

96 to 99%

Order accuracy on industrial eCommerce portals vs 85 to 92% on traditional channels

Industrial eCommerce platforms achieve 96 to 99% order accuracy compared to 85 to 92% for traditional phone and rep based ordering. The accuracy gap translates directly into fewer returns, fewer credits, and less back office correction work per order.

$4,200+

Average industrial B2B order value on manufacturing eCommerce platforms

Manufacturing B2B average order values range from $4,200 to $15,800 depending on product category. At these order values, the cost of a manual ordering error or a portal that cannot handle the buyer's actual pricing agreement is significant.

80%

Share of B2B sales interactions happening digitally by end of 2025

Gartner projected 80% of B2B sales interactions would happen through digital channels by end of 2025. Industrial buyers who cannot self serve with a supplier compare that experience against competitors who have built one.

The collaboration between us and Shero Commerce on the JustRite multi store site went beyond what we had hoped for. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements has greatly enhanced our online presence.

What industrial B2B eCommerce requires that standard Shopify builds do not provide

Industrial B2B on Shopify requires more than a standard DTC setup: complex catalogs, account-specific pricing, ERP synchronization, and checkout flows that support purchase orders and net terms. Brands like JustRite Safety Group and Gen Y Hitch run this type of architecture on Shopify successfully.

Industrial B2B requirements that standard Shopify builds miss

Industrial builds fail at predictable points: catalog architecture that was not designed for technical search, ERP integration scoped as a post launch addition, and dealer pricing that breaks at the account level.

01

Technical catalog architecture designed before build begins

Industrial product catalogs include part numbers, specifications, compatible equipment, dimensions, materials, and application data. This needs to be structured for technical buyer search and for ERP synchronization simultaneously. The architecture decisions made at build time determine whether the catalog scales and whether the ERP connection can be maintained without manual corrections per sync cycle.

02

ERP integration scoped in week one, not added after launch

Connecting NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or a custom ERP to Shopify is the most common reason industrial B2B projects exceed scope when integration is deferred until after launch. Data flows, error handling, and pricing sync need to be mapped before build begins. The Shopify ERP integration page covers how Shero approaches this for JustRite, CCL, and Benchmade.

03

Dealer and distributor pricing tiers assigned per company, not per market

Industrial distributors have individually negotiated pricing agreements. Shopify Plus assigns catalogs directly to individual company accounts so a national distributor gets one price list and a regional dealer gets another, all managed from one admin. On non Plus plans, catalog assignment goes through Shopify Markets at the regional level, which does not support per company pricing without additional app infrastructure.

04

Quick order and reorder for buyers who know their part numbers

Industrial buyers know their SKUs and quantities. They do not browse. Quick Order List in Online Store 2.0 themes v11 and later allows buyers to add multiple SKUs and quantities from the product page without third party apps. For earlier themes or CSV upload requirements, a quick order app fills the gap. Removing per product page navigation from a multi SKU reorder reduces routine order time significantly.

05

Checkout that handles purchase orders and net terms natively

Industrial B2B transactions typically require PO reference number capture at checkout and net terms that reflect the buyer's account agreement. Shopify Plus B2B handles both natively for company accounts. Net terms are assigned at the company level and appear at checkout automatically. PO fields are available for company accounts without custom development.

06

Draft orders for rep assisted and approval required transactions

Not all industrial orders go through self serve checkout. Sales reps create draft orders for phone orders and custom quotes. Orders above a threshold route through an approval workflow before processing. Shopify draft orders and Shopify Flow handle both without custom development. Draft order deposit requirements on large orders are available on Shopify Plus.

How industrial B2B builds run

01

Industrial Requirements and ERP Scoping

Catalog architecture for technical products, dealer and distributor pricing tiers, ERP data flows, checkout requirements for PO capture and net terms, and integration scope are all documented before design begins.

02

Data Architecture and Catalog Design

Product data model for technical specifications and compatible equipment, company account hierarchy, catalog and price list structure, and ERP integration architecture designed together before build starts.

03

Build and ERP Integration

Store build, B2B configuration, technical catalog data migration, ERP integration development, quick order setup, and Shopify Flow automation for approval workflows run in parallel.

04

Buyer and ERP Testing

Each dealer and distributor account type tested through the full purchase flow: catalog and pricing accuracy, PO capture, net terms, quick order, draft order workflows, and ERP data sync end to end.

05

Launch and Ongoing Development

Monitored launch with dealer onboarding. Post launch development covers catalog updates, new product lines, new account tier configurations, and ERP integration maintenance.

Invisible Bead Extensions®

Working with Shero Commerce on our migration from WordPress to Shopify was honestly such a pleasant experience. We’d been on WordPress for five years with tons of content and very specific styling, and moving all of it into one cohesive Shopify site was no small feat — this was a genuinely complex, highly technical migration. But they pulled it off on deadline with zero errors and zero issues. Their team showed up with everything we needed: a project manager, multiple developers, marketing leads, email specialists, and CRO experts, all coordinated through dedicated meetings and a real task management system. They also designed several high impact conversion pages so our digital presence didn’t just function better — it looked beautiful too. Since migrating, we’ve seen an increase in revenue thanks to having one simplified, cohesive platform. I’m so grateful for how seamlessly they executed this, and I’d recommend Shero Commerce to anyone facing a migration like ours.“
