Shopify for Distributors

Distributors who process orders by phone, email, or rep visit are competing against suppliers who have built the self serve portal their customers want. 84% of B2B buyers want multi channel purchasing options. 73% prefer digital when it is available. Shopify gives distributors the territory controls, company accounts, net terms, and ERP integration the channel requires.

Share of total revenue from online sales for distributors selling digitally

Among distributors who have moved to ecommerce, online sales account for 34% of total revenue. Distributors still processing orders manually are running at a structural cost disadvantage against those who have built a working digital channel.

84%

B2B buyers want suppliers to offer multiple purchasing channels

The Hokodo 2025 B2B Commerce Buyer Expectations Report found 84% of B2B buyers want their suppliers to offer multiple channels: webstore, marketplace, in store, and telesales. Distributors offering only phone and rep based ordering are failing to meet what buyers now expect as standard.

78%

B2B buyers say payment terms are a deciding factor across every channel

78% of B2B buyers say payment terms are a deciding factor in supplier selection. Net 15, Net 30, Net 60, and Net 90 are native to Shopify Plus B2B. Terms assigned to each company account apply automatically at checkout without manual adjustment.

$30.1T

Global B2B ecommerce sales in 2025

Global B2B ecommerce sales reached $30.1 trillion in 2025. Distribution is one of the largest contributors. The move to digital ordering in distribution is not a trend. It is the current state of how industrial and wholesale buyers purchase.

The collaboration between us and Shero Commerce on the JustRite multi store site went beyond what we had hoped for. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements has greatly enhanced our online presence.

What distributors need from Shopify that a standard store does not provide

Distribution ecommerce has specific requirements: territory based catalog controls so each distributor account sees only the products and pricing they are authorized for, volume pricing at the quantities distributors actually order, net terms matched to individually negotiated agreements, ERP integration to keep pricing and inventory synchronized, and company account management that handles large networks with multiple locations and buyers under one parent account.

Distribution ecommerce requirements that standard Shopify builds miss

A distribution portal built like a DTC store fails in predictable ways: catalog and pricing controls that do not isolate territory accounts, checkout flows that do not handle net terms or purchase orders, and ERP connections that drift out of sync. These are not configuration errors. They are architectural failures.

01

Territory catalog controls assigned per company, not per market

On Shopify Plus, catalogs are assigned directly to individual distributor company accounts or locations. A distributor in one territory sees only their authorized products and pricing. On non Plus plans, catalog assignment goes through Shopify Markets at the regional level, which does not provide per company territory isolation.

02

Volume pricing calibrated to distributor order economics

Distributor orders arrive at different quantities than dealer or retail orders. Volume pricing tiers in Shopify Plus catalog price lists are configured specifically for distributor volumes. JustRite and STX both use volume tiers configured around their actual distributor order patterns, not adapted from retail pricing.

03

Net terms and purchase order capture at checkout

Terms are assigned at the company level and appear automatically at checkout for each distributor account. PO reference fields are native to Shopify Plus B2B checkout. Partial payments and deposits for large distributor orders also require Plus. See our Shopify Plus B2B page for full detail.

04

ERP integration keeps pricing and inventory synchronized

Distribution pricing changes frequently. ERP integration keeps distributor catalog prices current in Shopify without manual updates. Shopify Winter 2026 expanded prebuilt bidirectional ERP connectors through Patchworks covering orders, companies, payment terms, products, and pricing.

05

Multi location company accounts for national distributor networks

National distributors with regional offices, warehouses, and multiple ship to addresses all operate under one company account in Shopify Plus. Each location has its own pricing, catalog, and payment terms. JustRite runs this structure across multiple brands and distributor tiers.

06

Shopify Flow automates distributor onboarding and order routing

New distributor account applications, catalog assignment, net terms setup, and order routing can all run through Shopify Flow. Onboarding a new distributor does not require manual admin work across multiple systems for every new account added. See our Shopify ERP integration page for full detail.
