The World Wide Web Consortium provides a markup validation service that checks the markup validity of Web documents in HTML, XHTML, SMIL, MathML, etc. Of course, as a website owner you will not be able to make any corrections by your self based on the validator’s report.  Markup validation is an important step towards ensuring the technical quality of web pages; however, is not a complete measure of web standards conformance. It can provide just some  good hints that can help a website’s health and overall SEO, and you should talk about these hints to your webmaster or web developing team.

Now you may think, is this enough? Unfortunately it is not. Sometimes I see websites that are coded really badly, with old school HTML, and still rank high on Google. You know why? Because they have great content and content rules. If your content is unique and interesting people will share it, other websites will link to it, and consecutively Google will rank it high. So don’t forget that all these tips will help , but your content is what will set your website appart.
