Shopify Adyen Integration Services

Enterprise merchants outgrow Shopify Payments when they need local payment methods, global acquiring, and unified cross-channel reporting in a single dashboard. Adyen provides all of this, but activating it requires an Enterprise plan, a pre-existing Adyen account, Shopify eligibility approval, and permanently deactivates Shopify Payments. Shero configures the integration, local payment methods, and reconciliation for merchants that meet the requirements.

EUR processed by Adyen in FY2025

Adyen processed €1.4 trillion in payment volume in FY2025, with net revenue of €2.4 billion, up 18% year over year. Its enterprise client roster includes Meta, Uber, H&M, eBay, Spotify, and Microsoft. On Shopify, Adyen serves merchants whose payment complexity, international scope, or unified commerce requirements exceed what Shopify Payments can handle.

30+

Local payment methods available through Adyen on Shopify

Adyen supports more than 30 local payment methods across markets, including iDEAL in the Netherlands, Cartes Bancaires in France, Bancontact in Belgium, and SEPA Direct Debit across the eurozone. Local payment method availability through the Shopify integration varies by region and requires configuration after the primary Adyen gateway is installed.

98%

Client Retention

98% of Shero's clients stay on retainer after their project closes. Adyen integrations require ongoing maintenance as local payment methods are added, currencies are configured per market, and reconciliation requirements evolve with transaction volume.

Shopify

Premier Partner

Shero holds Shopify Premier Partner status, one of fewer than 150 agencies globally. Adyen on Shopify involves deactivating Shopify Payments, configuring local payment methods per market, and managing reconciliation across currencies. This is not a configuration task suited to an agency without enterprise Shopify Plus experience.

The collaboration between us and Shero Commerce on the JustRite multi store site went beyond what we had hoped for. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements has greatly enhanced our online presence.

What Adyen on Shopify actually requires and what it does not support

Switching to Adyen requires a Shopify Enterprise plan, a verified Adyen account, and Shopify approval, and permanently removes access to Shopify Payments, Shopify's fraud tools, and Klarna and PayPal. That trade-off is right for merchants who need Adyen's global acquiring, local payment methods, and unified POS and eCommerce data. It is not right for merchants switching primarily to reduce processing costs. Shero assesses fit before scoping any of the following integration work.

  • Adyen gateway activation on Shopify Enterprise with merchant account verification
  • Local payment method configuration per market: iDEAL, Cartes Bancaires, Bancontact, SEPA, and others
  • Multi-currency acquiring configuration with Shopify Markets integration
  • Credit card installment setup for Brazil (BRL) and Mexico (MXN) markets
  • Reconciliation setup for Adyen payouts against Shopify order data across currencies
  • Adyen Agentic integration for AI commerce channels (announced June 2026, limited availability)

Why enterprise brands work with Shero on Adyen integration

Shero assesses whether Adyen is the right gateway for the merchant's requirements before any configuration begins, because activating Adyen deactivates Shopify Payments and is not straightforward to reverse.

01

Eligibility confirmed before configuration begins

Adyen on Shopify requires Enterprise plan membership, a fully verified Adyen account, and Shopify's explicit approval. Merchants without all three cannot activate the integration regardless of how the setup is configured. Shero confirms eligibility with the merchant's Shopify Customer Success Manager before scoping any technical work, because the gateway cannot go live without that approval in place.

02

Activating Adyen deactivates Shopify Payments. That decision is not easily reversed.

Switching to Adyen as the primary gateway deactivates Shopify Payments. Shopify fraud tools, Klarna via Shopify Payments, and PayPal via Shopify Payments are no longer available. If a merchant deactivates Adyen later and wants to return to Shopify Payments, they must re-meet the current eligibility requirements, which may have changed. Shero maps the full implications of the switch before any activation, including what payment methods and tools will no longer be available.

03

Local payment methods configured after the primary gateway is active

Adyen's local payment methods on Shopify are added after the primary Adyen Payments credit card app is installed. Each market's local methods are configured separately and require coordination with the merchant's Adyen account setup for that market. iDEAL, Cartes Bancaires, Bancontact, and SEPA Direct Debit are the most common configurations for European enterprise merchants. Shero maps the required local methods per market and configures them in the correct sequence.

04

Multi-currency reconciliation across Adyen payouts and Shopify order data

Adyen settles in the market's local currency when it matches Adyen's settlement currencies for that region. For merchants operating across multiple currencies, reconciling Adyen payouts against Shopify order data requires mapping settlement currencies, exchange timing, and payout schedules per market. Shero configures reconciliation as part of the integration so multi-currency payouts are matched accurately from the first settlement cycle.

05

Adyen Agentic for AI commerce channels

Adyen announced Adyen Agentic on June 16, 2026, a modular API suite that lets enterprise merchants integrate once and participate across AI agent platforms including Meta, Google, and OpenAI's shopping protocols (UCP, ACP, and AP2). For Shopify enterprise merchants on Adyen who want to extend payment coverage to AI agent commerce without separate integrations per platform, Agentic is the relevant next step. Shero monitors this as an emerging integration area alongside the broader AI commerce readiness work.

06

Ongoing maintenance as markets, currencies, and Adyen API evolve

Adyen updates its API and local payment method availability regularly. Adding new markets requires new local payment method configurations in Adyen. Currency changes require updates in both Shopify Markets and Adyen's currency settings. Shero's post-launch retainers cover Adyen integration maintenance alongside the enterprise Shopify Plus support scope.
