Afterpay connects to Shopify through two apps, depending on the merchant's market, but the app install is only the starting point. The integration work that follows covers on-site messaging, order thresholds, product type restrictions, and reconciliation. The on-site messaging app is separate from the payment app and requires its own configuration. Order thresholds set to match the store's product pricing

Afterpay has a default eligibility range of $35 to $1,000 per order. Stores selling primarily below $35 or above $1,000 need those thresholds adjusted to match their catalog. Stores with a mix of eligible and ineligible product types need Shopify Functions rules to control when Afterpay appears. Shero configures thresholds and eligibility rules as part of the integration rather than leaving defaults in place.

US and international Afterpay are different apps with different setup paths

US merchants use the Cash App Afterpay app. Merchants outside the US use the international Afterpay app. A store with US and non-US markets may need both configured separately. Using the wrong app for the merchant's region is one of the most common setup errors. Shero confirms the correct app for the merchant's Business Hub account before installation. This sits within the broader payment gateways configuration work for the store.

Reconciliation set up before the first payout lands

Afterpay pays merchants net of its transaction fee (approximately 6% plus $0.30) on a settlement schedule that does not align one-to-one with Shopify order dates. Reconciling Afterpay payouts against Shopify order data requires mapping each settlement to the orders it covers and accounting for fee deductions, refunds, and dispute chargebacks. Shero configures reconciliation before launch so the first payout does not create an accounting gap.

Shopify Functions replaces Script Editor for Afterpay product restrictions on Plus

Merchants who previously used Script Editor to hide Afterpay for specific product types need those rules rebuilt in Shopify Functions following the Script Editor deprecation in June 2026. Shero rebuilds these restrictions in Functions as part of the integration or migration engagement.

Afterpay updates its Business Hub requirements, Shopify changes checkout architecture, and on-site messaging placements break when themes update.
