Shopify Distributor Portal Development

83% of B2B buyers prefer to complete orders through self serve digital channels rather than through a sales representative. A Shopify Plus distributor portal gives each distributor its own territory catalog, negotiated pricing, net terms, and order history. The question is not whether distributors want to self serve. They do.

83%

B2B buyers prefer self serve digital ordering

83% of B2B buyers prefer to complete orders through self serve digital channels rather than interacting with a sales representative. Distributors ordering by phone, email, or spreadsheet are doing so because their supplier has not given them a working alternative.

$500K+

Order size B2B buyers place through self serve portals

73% of B2B buyers are willing to place orders over $500,000 through digital self serve channels. Large distributor orders do not require a sales rep in the loop. They require a portal that handles the pricing complexity and purchase order requirements correctly.

Net 90

Maximum native payment terms on Shopify Plus

Net 15, Net 30, Net 60, and Net 90 are native to Shopify Plus B2B. Distributor payment terms are assigned at the company or location level and apply automatically at checkout. No manual invoicing required and no payment tracking outside the platform.

4.1x

Increase in reorder frequency on Shopify B2B

Shopify reports merchants using native B2B features see up to a 4.1x increase in reorder frequency compared to DTC orders. For distributor networks, this means stock replenishment orders that previously required sales rep involvement are placed directly by the distributor.

The collaboration between us and Shero Commerce on the JustRite multi store site went beyond what we had hoped for. Their dedication to understanding our unique requirements has greatly enhanced our online presence.

What distributor portals require that generic B2B setups do not cover

Distributor portals have requirements that generic B2B setups cannot reliably handle: territory controls so each distributor sees only the products they are authorized to sell in their region, volume pricing tiers at distributor order quantities rather than retail quantities, complex net terms that match individually negotiated agreements, and ERP integration to keep inventory and account data synchronized across systems.

Where distributor portals built on Shopify fail and how to prevent it

Distributor portals built without proper architecture share the same failure modes: territory controls that let products cross into unauthorized regions, pricing that does not hold at distributor order volumes, ERP connections that drift out of sync, and checkout flows that do not capture purchase orders or support complex net terms.

01

Territory catalog controls assigned per company, not per market

On Shopify Plus, catalogs are assigned directly to individual company accounts or locations. A distributor in one territory sees only the products and pricing authorized for their region. They cannot see or order products reserved for other distributors. On non Plus plans, catalog assignment goes through Markets which does not provide per company territory control.

02

Volume pricing calibrated to distributor order economics

Distributor orders arrive at quantities that are different from dealer or retail orders. Volume pricing tiers in Shopify Plus catalog price lists are configured specifically for distributor volumes, not adapted downward from retail pricing or upward from dealer pricing.

03

Net terms matched to each distributor agreement

Different distributors have different negotiated terms. Net 30 for a regional account, Net 60 for a national account, Net 90 for a strategic partner. Terms are set at the company level and appear at checkout automatically. Partial payments and deposits for large distributor orders require Shopify Plus. See our Shopify Plus B2B page for full detail.

04

ERP keeps distributor pricing and inventory synchronized

Distributor pricing, account data, and order history need to stay in sync between Shopify and the ERP. Pricing changes in the ERP flow to the portal. Orders from Shopify go into the ERP for fulfillment. Account data stays current in both systems. Shopify Winter 2026 added prebuilt bidirectional sync through Patchworks covering all of this.

05

Purchase order capture and invoice documentation at checkout

Distributor transactions require PO reference numbers and invoice documentation. Shopify Plus captures PO fields at checkout natively for company accounts. Invoice tracking and net terms management run through Shopify's native B2B features and Shopify Flow.

06

Multi location support for national distributor companies

National distributors with regional offices and warehouses all under one parent company are supported natively on Shopify Plus. Each location can have its own catalog assignment, pricing, and payment terms under the same company account. See our Shopify B2B account management page for full detail.

How distributor portal builds are structured

01

Distributor Network and Territory Mapping

Distributor tiers, territory definitions, product authorization, pricing agreement structures, payment terms, and ERP integration requirements are documented before design or build begins.

02

Portal Architecture and Catalog Design

Company account hierarchy, territory catalog structure, volume pricing tiers, and ERP integration architecture are designed to match the distributor network map.

03

Build and Integration

Company accounts, territory catalogs, pricing configuration, payment terms, and checkout setup. ERP integration for account, pricing, and order data sync. Shopify Flow for onboarding and order routing.

04

Distributor Testing

Each distributor account type is tested: territory catalog visibility, pricing accuracy at volume tiers, checkout with correct terms and PO fields, order history, and ERP sync verification.

05

Launch and Distributor Onboarding

Monitored launch with distributor onboarding documentation. Automated onboarding flows scale new account setup for large networks.
